I am writing to ask for help in finding Dr. Wan Yanhai who has disappeared recently. It is speculated that Dr. Wan, a Chinese citizen, is now being detained by the Security Police of the Peoples' Republic of China (PRC).

As the PRC is currently applying for a grant from your organization, I urge you to request from the PRC information regarding Dr. Wan. Last year, Dr. Wan, who had worked closed with Dr. Gao Yaojie, had accepted an award from Secretary General Kofi Annan on her behalf.
